Boot spotting: 3rd October

The world famous Soccer Reviews boot spotting article starts itself up for another round of this week’s boot spots. We’ve delved through leagues from all over the world to bring the best boot spots for our readers, but there’s one or two spots this week that we really can’t identify. Some reader intervention might be needed to identify them!
Chris Brunt (West Brom) – Puma PowerCat 1.12


And we start off with something that always brings a bit of discussion, a white-out boot spot. Chris Brunt has been wearing the Black/Orange PowerCat 1.10 for quite a few weeks now and he took to the field this week in this mysterious white out boot. After looking at a few different angles of the boot, it seems Brunt has been given a pair of PowerCat 1.12s to get used to the boot without raising too much alarm, even though Cesc Fabregas showed them off this week when he signed for the German brand.
Junior Hoilett (Blackburn) – adidas Blackout adiPower Predator


From white-out boots to black-out boots, it’s fair to say there’s always a shroud of mystery hanging over a boot when it’s a black-out boot, so let the accusations begin! We think that these are AdiPowers, as you can see three definitive stripes on the instep of the boot, similar to the upper of the AdiPower Predator. But dare we say that Hoilett is testing out the AdiControl? Either way, Blackburn were hammered by Man City as the chances of a mid table finish for Blackburn went down the Hoilett (does anyone get that?)
Javier Morales (Real Salt Lake) – Adidas F50 AdiZero (Custom)


While nearly every AdiZero colourway is bright enough to make your eyes hurt, there haven’t been too many suave and sophisticated colourways. That’s probably led Morales to make his own White/Black customised AdiZeros. It’s fair to say he’s done a pretty good job of it too!
Daniel Montenegro (America) and Marco Palacios (Pumas) – ????


The Mexican league is said to have a wide variety of boots, and this is a textbook example of the rumour. We really don’t have a clue what either of these players are wearing. Could anyone lighten the situation for us?
Matt Reis (New England Revolution) – Puma V1.11


You could pay me any sum of money you want and I would never wear these boots. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, several MLS footballers wore pink boots in support of the cause, including Reis here as he probably subjected himself to the taunts of team mates for his boot of choice! I still wouldn’t wear it…
Matthew Tubbs (Crawley Town) – Adidas Predator PowerSwerve


It’s always great to see a retro boot spot, especially when it’s a boot that was released nearly 4 years ago! Featuring SmartFoam that was said to aid power, swerve and ball control, the PowerSwerve was the last Predator to feature the iconic wrap over tongue, something that was ditched on the new Predator X.
Julio Cesar (Inter Milan) – Mizuno Supersonic Wave


Another blackout boot that caused a bit of confusion at Soccer Reviews HQ, after a session of prodding and probing the boots, it seems Julio Cesar is simply wearing a blackout Mizuno Supersonic Wave. So no potentially exciting boot being tested here.
Freddy Montero (Seattle Sounders) – Adidas Predator AdiPower (custom)

Definitely another boot that is support of a great cause. Admittedly, I don’t think Freddy Montero’s miadidas creation is too good (it’s a mix of different colours really) but the thought is there!
Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) – Nike Mercurial Superfly III


After wearing the orange Superfly III since the start of the season, Ronaldo gave the new Volt Superfly III it’s debut against Espanyol. We don’t expect Ronaldo to wear these for too long, as we tip the new signature CR7 Mercurial to be released in the coming weeks.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto (Tottenham) – Adidas Predator AdiPower (Custom)

While we think the AdiPower releases so far have exceeded expectations and have been brilliant looking boots, we wonder what has led Assou-Ekotto to grab the permanent marker and colour in the yellow strips on the blue release colourway of the AdiPower. To be fair to Assou-Ekotto, it really doesn’t look half bad.
Aurelien Collin (Sporting Kansas City) – Adidas AdiPure SL

By word, it’s like finding gold! We always have to go a long way to see an AdiPure SL (yes I know Pennant is wearing some but we can’t find a good picture!) and it’s always a little bit special when we someone wearing them. Isaac is currently reviewing the AdiPure SL, so stick around for that review!
Teal Banbury (Sporting Kansas City) – Adidas Predator AdiPower (custom)


Another supporter of the Breast Cancer Awareness month, this very feminine colour was definitely a creation from the miadidas service offered by the German company! Not only does it show off the support for Breast Cancer Awareness, it’s a decent match with Banbury’s kit too!
