WIKI LEAKS: NEW NIKE SOFT GROUND STUD CONFIGURATION

It may be the festive season, but football does not stop for anything. That’s including us, as we today present to you what we believe will be a very popular thing by Nike, an all new soft ground stud configuration.

Nearly every boot on the market has a very similar soft ground stud configuration. Apart from the miCoach F50 adiZero, every SG boot has metal studs all the way down the sole plate of the boot. While this is very good for traction in very wet conditions, it isn’t great for acceleration, as the rounded metal studs can make you feel a little heavier on your feet. The professionals have seen this as a problem, as some professionals have had their sole plates customised to contain a mixture of FG and metal studs.
So Nike saw this and did something about it. In time for Euro 2012 (a lot happening around that time), Nike will roll out a new SG stud configuration on all of their boot silos. We saw hints of this in our first images of the all new Vapor VIII, as the SG version contained regular moulded studs on the heel and forefoot.

Even though we only have images of the Mercurial, CTR and Tiempo versions of the SG boots, we are sure that they will also be released onto the T90 Laser IV range. As we mentioned earlier, the first SG/FG hybrid stud configuration will be released onto the Vapor VIII in May. But from there, they are expected to be rolled out onto the Euro 2012 colourways of each boot silo later in that month.
We’re a little bit surprised by this decision from Nike, but if we’re being honest, we’re greeting it with open arms. It’s a brilliant call by Nike, and people who have worn SG studs will know all about the lack of agility and movement you may experience in SG footwear. Not only that, it’s bringing the professional service to the everyday footballer, something that we think will go down well with everyone. Undoubtedly, this will be overshadowed by the Mercurial Vapor VIII that will be released around the same time as this, but it’s still big news that will affect every player!
