SPAIN & REAL MADRID NO.1 CASILLAS SIGNS WITH ADIDAS

The Spanish and Real Madrid No. 1 has just signed for the German giants, adidas. Casillas, who has been the face (or hands) of Reebok for numerous years, switched allegiances to their parent company, adidas just the other day. This is of course a massive sponsorship deal and in addition, this strikes another blow to Reebok’s dwindling sponsorship list.

Casillas unveiled his new gloves and boots in the Santiago Bernabeu store just only the other day – confirming his new sponsorship deal with adidas. Everyone is aware of the fact that adidashave been Real Madrid’s kit suppliers for the best part of over a decade and it’s great to see Casillas finally have a matching kit as far as branding is concerned. Although most goalkeepers tend to sport different gloves (glove sponsorships are always well documented) to their boots, the sponsorships struck with brands such as adidas and Nike essentially limits goalkeepers to their assortment of boots but we’re sure Casillas won’t mind…
adidas have supplied the Spanish shot-stopper with their adidas Response Pro (White/Black) gloves, with the AllRound latex palm foam providing optimum comfort, grip and cushioning in all weather conditions. The Response Pro gloves are designed with a negative cut to create a tight fit around the hand and are secured around the hand with a full wrist strap. The fabric of the gloves is designed with adidas’ ClimaCool technology to ensure that any excess heat and moisture within the gloves can evaporate. It’s interesting to see Casillas elect for the Responseline rather than the Fingersave line, which offers maximum finger protection and enhanced punch zones. Reflecting on his choice, it seems like Casillas prefers to favour his feel and control of the ball as opposed to finger protection.

With the hands dealt with, adidas have kitted out Casillas’ feet with their Halloween (Black/Orange/White) Predator adiPower boots! You don’t need to give it much thought to realise that there isn’t much of an alternative (in terms of boots) for Casillas considering that he is a goalkeeper and the majority of goalkeepers opt for power boots. However, the silicon rubber Predator element zone is certain to provide Casillas with that extra ounce of power and control when it comes to his kicking game and with the Taurus leather upper, the adiPowercertainly doesn’t lack in comfort. The distinctive Sprint Frame chassis will probably lighten his step a fair bit too. In all honesty, the adiPower is undoubtedly the ultimate boot as far as goalkeepers are concerned.
adidas have released the following TV spot on Spanish air – we’re not too sure when it will be aired elsewhere – which depicts Casillas’ entry into their ‘legendary’ hall of fame, prior to pulling on his new gloves and boots. Unfortunately, our aptitude with the Spanish language is… lacking to say the least, but we would appreciate it if anyone could provide an English interpretation but we must admit that the music is awful catchy whilst the gloves and boots still remain to be the main attraction.
Funnily enough, Casillas, Cech and Neuer are the only significant names on adidas’ contract pages, but when you consider that many goalkeepers prefer Nike or the more unique and niche brands such as Sells, it isn’t much of a surprise. Regardless of that, it’s a switch that many (us included) will love and applaud.
