BOOT SPOTTING 3-4 MARCH

We start this week with arguably the biggest boot spot of the weekend. Jordan Henderson was used by Umbro to launch their Geometra Pro boots and has been one of their marquee players since. This weekend however Henderson wore Nike’s control boot, the CTR360, when Liverpool played Arsenal. Whether or not this is a permanent move we are not sure but it would be a big surprise as it would be a major blow for Umbro – who are owned by Nike.

We finally seem to have a player who frequently wears Puma’s SL version of their V range. Blackburn Rovers’Marcus Olsson has been in the SL for his handful of appearances having joined his twin brother. Olsson is currently in the Blue/White/Lime Puma V1.11 SL colourway.

Pavel Pogrebnyak has proven to be a great capture by Fulham as the tall Russian forward has now scored five goals in his first three Barclays Premier League matches after a hat-trick against Wolves this weekend. Pogrebnyak is one of many players impressing in Adidas’ Blue/Energy AdiZero colourway.

Nike are set to launch their new Mercurial Vapor in the next few days but a few of the current Superfly’s older colourways were on display this weekend. Yossi Benayoun has stuck with the Granite/Purple/White/Red despite the current Purple/Silver colourway being a great match with Arsenal’s away kit.

Another player wearing an older colourway is ex-Arsenal striker Niklas Bendtner. Bendtner has always enjoyed flashy boot colourways and seems to have a new favourite after switching back to the eye-catching Volt/Purple/Retro colourway from the Purple/Silver.

It seemed a few players were switching back to old favourites this weekend. Jon Walters has been featured here numerous times wearing Puma v-Konstruckt boots but has been in Nike Tiempo Legend boots. Walters was back in his Silver/White/Red Puma’s this weekend however.

Earlier in the season it looked as though Joey Barton was a Puma boot wearer after the QPR midfielder wore the pre-release white-out PowerCat 1.12 boots. Recently however it seems he is an Adidas man after changing to AdiPower Predator boots. He is even in the newest Slime/Navy colourway.

We have previously seen Swansea’s Danny Graham in Umbro’s Speciali III boots. This weekend however Graham went back to his Speciali II boots. We wonder if the Pros are not so keen on the new III as the likes of Terry and Carroll still haven’t switched over and now Graham has reverted.

Gael Clichy has remained in Umbro Stealth Pro II boots despite a host of new boots such as the Geometra Pro -the Stealth II’s replacement. He has now changed into a new boot however as he was spotted in GT I Pro boots this weekend. Although the GTs have a newer colourway available we must admit the Blue Radiance/Black/Orange Popsicle looks great with his Umbro Manchester City kit.

We have been a few weeks now for the AdiPure 11Pro to really have an impact on the Premier League. At TRW we think the 11Pro has a shot at ‘Boot of the Year’ but they need a greater on-field presence. Some star names are still to switch to the new AdiPure but Spurs’ veteran defender Ledley King has made the change. King’s fitness has been pretty good this season and the big centre back has made a decent number of appearances this season which could see him earn another years contract.
